History of the theatre
The Denver Performing Arts Complex is located on your right, between 13th and 14th Streets. The main entrance to the DPAC parking garage is on Arapahoe Street. Bellemer began choral singing as a young child and continued throughout his school years, eventually choosing to study voice over medicine at James Madison University where he received his Bachelor of Music degree. Bruno Taddia, born in Pavia, Italy, began his musical training with the violin. After his stage debut at the prestigious Rossini Opera Festival in Il viaggio a Reims (Don Alvaro) he began to collaborate with many of the top musical institutions in the world. Recently, he starred in Iphigénie en Tauride, Winterreise, The Daughter of the Regiment, L’Elisir d’amore, Don Pasquale, and made a role debut in Falstaff. He also appeared in the new recording of Vivaldi edition’s Tamerlano as Bajazet, under the baton of Ottavio Dantone.
His work has been seen in concerts, dance, opera, and the stage, along with various industrials and galas. His dance work includes designing A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Giselle for Royal New Zealand Ballet and Dangerous Liaisons for Queensland Ballet. He lit Andrea Bocceli’s U.S. premier opera performance and has worked with Luciana Pavarotti, Denyce Graves and Ruth Ann Swenson. As the Resident Lighting Designer for Michigan Opera since 1989 he has lit over eighty productions.

His interpretations combine a wide range of characters in the baroque, classical, and contemporary operatic repertoire as well as in the symphonic and vocal chamber music. The off-stage areas feel like a home with comfortable areas to read or roomy dressing rooms that can accommodate a full-sized Bösendorfer piano for rehearsals and warm-ups.

The slope of the balconies toward the stage, the ziggurat walls on each side, the curves on the front of the side balconies and the vertical volume of the space are all designed to enhance the natural sound of the hall. Moveable walls within the orchestra pit adjust to the size of the orchestra and serve as sound reflectors, a design advance unique to this facility. The designers wanted to create a relationship between the performer and audience. The farthest seat in the hall is only 113 feet from the stage, twenty-four feet closer to the stage than in the old theatre.
